Heavy tree cover all year

Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby are known for big native trees such as blue gums and turpentines. Gums shed leaves and bark all year. Jacarandas drop flowers in late spring and leaves later on, and liquidambars drop leaves and seed balls in autumn. Many roofs here collect something in every season.

Older tile and slate roofs

Many homes are Federation or interwar houses with terracotta tile or slate roofs. These roofs can crack if walked on the wrong way. We walk them with care, and we use a low-pressure soft wash rather than high pressure. If we see a cracked tile, we take a photo and tell you.

Bush edges and bushfire season

Streets that back onto Ku-ring-gai Chase, Lane Cove National Park and other bushland can be mapped as bushfire prone land. Dry leaves in gutters can catch embers. The NSW Government advises clearing gutters before bushfire season. Check your council's map if you are not sure.

Steep blocks and long driveways

Will you damage my terracotta or slate roof?

We take care on older roofs. We step only where the roof can take weight and we use soft washing, not high pressure. If a roof is too fragile or unsafe to walk, we will tell you and suggest another way, or decline the job.

Are gutter guards worth it under big gums?

Guards can cut down how much debris gets in, but they still need checking and cleaning. Fine gum leaves and bark can sit on top of the mesh. We can clean gutters that have guards and tell you how well yours are working.

When is the best time to clean gutters on the North Shore?

Many homes here benefit from a clean in late winter or spring before bushfire season, and another after the autumn leaf drop. Homes with lots of trees may need more. We can suggest a plan once we have seen your roof.
